Ice Cream tRUCK OF rIGHTS

Summer Project in Partnership with the City of NY and the People’s Bus project. Through the creation of the ICTR we were able to deliver over 7000 ice creams and rights to the hardest covid hit neighborhoods in the 5 boroughs. We developed a song of rights in English and Spanish and over 24 different flavors of rights. We focussed on the JOY we could bring to the community. Each participant received a free ice cream and also a card with rights and a QR code which would lead to information specific to that right! Our focus was in housing rights, environmental rights and also immigrant rights.

Special thanks to the youth, People’s Pops and Big Shane’s Ice Cream.

DESIGN TRANSFORMS BORDERS 2022

Collaboration between Touching Land, design specialists from Product, Ceramic and Industrial Design program at Central Saint Martins University, University of Arts London and Territorial Empathy for Design Week NY.

A 5 day long activation of live studios of ceramic making, expert speakers’ panels and discursive dinners. All promoting access learning and social justice with the communities of Sunset Park, Brooklyn for Industry City’s Design Week.

We explored the concept of borders. Borders and their meanings, relationships informed by them, the physical, the geographic and emotional significance of borders, identities formed and journeys made.

DESIGN TRANSFORMS BORDERS II 2023

A continuation of our collaboration with CSM University of Arts London, we continued the exploration of borders and empowerment through ceramics and workshops using the worldwide known “ocarina” instrument.

Touching Land collaborating in bringing multiple workshops with different communities from the London area near Kings Cross along with non profits in conjunction and in location at the Lethaby Gallery as part of London Design Week in September of 2023.

We successfully held two workshops where we had simultaneous instruction with a shelter in the Mexican border, with refugees awaiting entry into the U.S. This was all achieved via zoom.
